Developing our talent
When they left university, Georgina Cox and Alex Hatfield-Marsland joined Persimmon’s very first graduate scheme. One year later, we’re pleased to say they’re going from strength to strength, as a Graduate Management Trainee and HR Graduate. Here, they explain why they chose Persimmon, and what they’ve learned along the way.
Can you tell us about your experience?
Alex: The grad scheme itself means we’ve worked in lots of different departments across the company. Because it’s really about finding what fits your strengths and personality.
Georgina: And, actually, that ability to move sideways and into different departments also applies to Persimmon generally. If you want to go down a different career path, you can talk to your line manager about changing. We’ve seen it a lot.
Alex: There’s also a tendency to hire from within, so there lots of opportunity for internal progression.
What’s the day-to-day culture like?
Alex: I’d say it’s friendly, quite fast-paced and rewarding! We were the first year to go through the Persimmon graduate scheme and people were really supportive along the way.
Georgina: I think you also feel like you’ve got a purpose. And every role I’ve been in has been busy, but in a good way!
What would you say to any potential candidates?
Alex: It’s a great place to build your career, because there’s so much opportunity for development.
Georgina: Whichever direction you want to go in, if you’re willing to work for it, the people here will help you get there.
