Persimmon Homes Yorkshire plans to recruit around a dozen new apprentices in bricklaying and joinery later this year.

Yorkshire regional apprentice manager Lisa Haywood, who joined the business last year, is responsible for the recruitment and training needs of the new recruits.

Scott Waters, managing director for Persimmon Homes Yorkshire, said: “The demand for new homes has never been higher, so we need quality craftspeople to deliver developments throughout our region.

“Lisa brings more than 13 years’ experience after being an apprenticeship officer for the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) so is ideally placed to support the career development of both our new recruits and current apprentices.”

Working closely with schools and colleges, Lisa’s role sees her engage with students showing them the range of career opportunities available within the construction industry.

Lisa said: “There is a national skill shortage within the construction sector and my role is about educating the next generation about the industry and finding the best candidates.

“I am currently working with 30 apprentices across the Yorkshire, West Yorkshire and the South Yorkshire regional businesses, supporting their training programmes to ensure they can successfully achieve their qualification.

“Apprenticeships open a unique doorway to long-term careers. They enable young people to learn a trade on-the-job while studying part-time and earning a salary.

“My role is both supporting and nurturing as I guide individuals through their educational journey and help strengthen the company’s loyal workforce, ensuring all tradespeople are trained to the ‘Persimmon Way’ quality standards.”
