A charity based in Fife that provides training and employment opportunities for local people is the latest worthy cause to receive the backing.
Fife Employment Access Trust received £1,000 from North Scotland, based in Perth, through the business’ Community Champions scheme.
Across the UK we awarded 64 grants of up to £1,000 each month – a total of up to £768,000 a year.
Fife Employment Access Trust was set up in 1994 by a small group of people concerned about the lack of employment opportunities for people in Fife who had experience of mental health problems.
Duncan Mitchell at the Trust said: “Receiving support such at this makes an enormous difference and we are incredibly grateful to Persimmon Homes.
“Recent restrictions have changed the way we work, with provision of our courses moving outdoors to Silverburn Park in Leven rather than indoor and face-to-face courses to reduce covid transmission.
“The funds will be used to deliver our outdoor ‘Grow your Mind’ initiative currently being piloted amongst local veterans and we are working with in partnership with Veterans F1rst Point in Fife who refer veterans to us. The horticulture and conservation work provides an opportunity to deliver cognitive and remediation therapy that will support individuals in achieving sustained paid employment. The concept will be rolled out to the wider community this year.”
James MacKay, managing director at Persimmon Homes North Scotland, said: “Our Community Champions initiative was set up to support groups and charities in the areas that we are working, and Fife Employment Access Trust is a fantastic and much-needed resource that supports people in their bid for fulfilling employment.
“Choosing the recipients is never easy but it is moving to hear from all the community spirited groups in our region and the amazing work that they do, often on a voluntary basis.
“We look forward to helping more worthy organisations this year.”
North Scotland is currently building a range of new homes at Woodlea Park in Dunfermline, West Mill in Markinch, Rosslyn gait in Kirkcaldy and Naughton Meadows in Wormit.
