Slam dunk for national basketball team after funding boost

Junior basketball stars in Wales are a step closer to competing in Gibraltar and Ireland after securing funding from Persimmon.

Basketball Wales Under-15 Boys National Team has netted £1,000 from our West Wales team.

The donation comes as part of the Community Champions scheme. Each and every month we donate up to £64,000 to good causes across the UK, including up to £4,000 in Wales.

The Under-15 national team missed the opportunity to compete in the United World Games in Austria last year due to the pandemic.

Team manager Cassie Jennings said: “Basketball Wales relies solely on fundraising and sponsorship to allow each team to compete at national level in Europe.

“We are looking for ways to help fund this team to compete this year in Gibraltar and Ireland.

“This donation from Persimmon is a tremendous boost and I know the boys will be extremely grateful.”

Sharon Bouhali, sales director at Persimmon Homes West Wales, said: “We are delighted to support Basketball Wales and the Under-15 team.

“Playing the sport they love on the big stage overseas is a great opportunity for them and it’s a privilege to be able to help make that a reality.”

We’re currently building stunning new homes right across South West Wales, including at Merlins Lane in Haverfordwest, Llys Ystrad and Tir Y Bont in Bridgend, Milton Meadow in Pontyclun and The Bridles in Llanelli.
