Two good causes in Dundee have successfully received funding from our North Scotland region.

The Food Train and Radio Tay’s Cash for Kids were both awarded £1,000 as part of Persimmon Homes Community Champions scheme which supports grassroot groups and charities across the local area.

The Food Train, which has been supporting older people across Dundee and North Scotland since 1995 provides a range of services including grocery delivery, befriending and help at home.

Grant Simmons, regional manager at The Food Train, said: “Like many, fundraising has been a big challenge for us over the last two years with the pandemic limiting our ability to have and attend events like we would normally. For this reason, we are extremely grateful for the donation from Persimmon.

“We want to allow individuals to live at home independently for as long as they are able – so, the funding will help us with the associated costs for our five delivery vans as well as related costs to support our volunteers with uniforms, ID badges and transport costs.”

Also receiving £1,000 from Persimmon Homes North Scotland is local charity, Radio Tay’s Cash for Kids. The charity supports under privileged children from 0-18 who have suffered from neglect, living in poverty or with life limiting illnesses and disabilities. 

Carly Mackenzie, charity fundraising executive for Radio Tay’s, said: “We want to ensure all children have access to every day basic essentials such as beds, bedding, clothing and toiletries which donations like the one from Persimmon help us to achieve.
