Liberty Gate is just a short walk from Lakenheath high street, where there are food outlets, a Co-op Food, farm shop, pubs, pharmacy and a post office. More shops and essential services can be found close-by in Mildenhall and Brandon. For a wider range, take a scenic drive through the forest to Thetford. With a history dating all the way back to the Iron Age, this charming town is now home to a good variety of shops and eateries, plus museums and a market. Then there's Bury St Edmunds, with its many independent and high street shops, bars, restaurants, and entertainment venues.
When it comes to leisure, there's something for everyone here. Liberty Gate is close to several parks and nature reserves – most notably Thetford Forest Park, a vast national forest that's home to trails, picnic areas and outdoor activities such as archery. In the heart of the forest is Go Ape, and other attractions include Center Parcs Elveden Forest, Brandon Country Park and Thetford Golf Club. There are excellent museums in Thetford, Mildenhall, Ely and Bury St Edmunds, while Cambridge (44 minutes away) has plenty to keep you occupied for a weekend.
