Historic landmark restored
17 April 2025

A historic landmark has been fully restored as part of major Loughborough housing development.
The 18th-century Obelisk, which sits in the grounds of the former Garendon Hall estate, has been carefully repaired by Persimmon Homes North Midlands part of its Garendon Park housing development.
The Grade II* listed structure had suffered years of weathering, but with support from local planners and heritage specialists, it has now been sensitively restored.
Persimmon Homes North Midlands, working in partnership with William Davis Ltd, is delivering more than 3,000 new homes on the site. The wider development includes two new primary schools, green open spaces, allotments, and a new strategic link road to help improve traffic flow in the area.
Dan Endersby Managing Director of Persimmon Homes North Midlands said: "We're proud to have restored the Obelisk at Garendon Park. At Persimmon it’s about more than just building homes; it’s about investing in the communities we work in and leaving a positive legacy for generations to come."
Planning permission for the development was first submitted in 2014. The restoration of the Obelisk is one of several key milestones as work progresses on the site.
Residents can expect further updates as work continues.
