Persimmon has transferred nine new homes to housing association Green Square Accord (GSA), all now available under a low-cost home ownership scheme in Grove, Wantage.
The homes are situated within the Wellington Gate development, built by Persimmon Homes Wessex, and comprise of three and four-bedroom dwellings. The first properties were handed over at the end of August, and all nine homes have been reserved with the final homes forecast to handover to GSA later this year.
This is the fourth phase of the Wellington Gate development with previous stages already seeing 97 homes available for both affordable rent and shared ownership as a result of Persimmon’s partnership with GSA. The Wellington Gate site, situated on the old airfield between Wantage and Grove, will see 2,500 high-quality homes constructed for local people once complete. Currently available for purchase are three and four-bed properties from £379,995.
In addition to the schools, the five-star builder will also be delivering a community hub, sports facilities, play pitches, play areas, an ecological park, a community park, allotments, and orchards as part of the new sustainable community. The Masterplan for Wellington Gate is based on a Green Infrastructure Strategy, developed to create a connected, multi-functional network of green spaces and corridors.
Recent local recipients of Persimmon Homes Wessex’s Community Champions fund include Sustainable Wantage, the Wantage Literary Festival, and Oxford Food Hub. The company also attended a Careers Fair for King Alfred’s Academy at The Beacon earlier this year.
Seb Spiller, Deputy Managing Director at Persimmon Homes Wessex, said “We are delighted with the progress we have made at Wellington Gate so far and that our relationship with GSA continues to go from strength to strength with this latest handover of properties.
“Persimmon is committed to leaving a positive and lasting legacy in the areas in which we build, and these homes help contribute towards meeting housing need in the Grove area which is so important to us.”
Rob Finch, Project Manager at GSA, added “We are proud to be working in partnership with Persimmon Homes to present these new, high-quality homes at Wellington Gate. This is the first time that we at GSA have made a four-bedroom home available for purchase under shared ownership which has generated a lot of interest.
“Not only are we helping to address local housing need by providing new homes, but we are also offering would-be homeowners a chance to get on to the property ladder, in a desirable location, where they might otherwise be priced out of the market.
“These latest homes would have been sold on the open market if we hadn’t secured them for our low-cost home ownership scheme.” Our Shared Owners will have the future option, should they wish, to staircase their share of the property and eventually become outright owners.
All of GSA’s new homes will come with a garage, private rear gardens, open plan dining and kitchen areas, an en suite bathroom and a living room with French windows allowing for plenty of natural light.
Located on the edge of Grove, Wellington Gate offers the tranquility of country living with the amenities of a large town, including pubs, supermarkets and plenty of local schools, close at hand. Wellington Gate itself is the regeneration of the old Grove Airfield site.
The closest rail station to the Wellington Gate development is Didcot Parkway and Oxford, Swindon and Newbury are all within a comfortable commuting distance.
