Severn Valley donates £1.5k to Portishead 2nd Scout Group
10 June 2024

A scout group in Portishead is the latest winner of our Community Champions scheme.
Portishead 2nd Scout Group volunteers (changed from ‘staff’) and members were handed the £1,500 cheque by the region at their local scout hut.
The scout group recently received praise for providing a programme of “everyday adventure” for almost 150 young boys and girls aged between 6 to 14, across Beavers, Cubs, and Scouts sections. Activities include camping, climbing, craft, archery, visits, drama, survival, and sports.
The donation will be used to fund sound deadening material for the ceiling of their scout hut, addressing the high noise levels created by up to 30 excited children. This improvement will help protect the hearing of both children and adult volunteers, ensuring a safer and more enjoyable environment for all.
Portishead 2nd Scout Group serves the Portishead community, with their hall and minibus available for use by the wider community. Currently, 150 children and young adults use the facilities weekly, with a further 50 children on waiting lists. The new sound deadening measures will allow the group to accommodate more children by better controlling noise levels inside the building.
Persimmon Homes Severn Valley has its headquarters in Portishead and played an instrumental role in the redevelopment of the marina. Persimmon donates £700,000 to good causes and much-valued organisations across Britain each year.
Persimmon Homes Severn Valley’s sales director, Carly Spear, said:
"We are thrilled to support Portishead 2nd Scout Group through our Community Champions programme.
“When we learned about their project to enhance the scout hut's acoustics, we knew we wanted to contribute, especially given our deep ties to the Portishead community.
“On behalf of Persimmon Severn Valley, I’d like to wish the scouts and their leaders continued success in all their activities and future plans supporting many young people in the local area."
Chris Gwynne of Portishead 2nd Scout Group added:
"We sincerely appreciate Persimmon's generous donation.
“Creating a safe and comfortable space for our activities is essential, and the new sound deadening will have a significant impact.
“With budget constraints and ongoing fundraising needs, Persimmon's support is incredibly valuable, and we will ensure the funds are used effectively to benefit all our members and promote healthy, happy experiences for young people in Portishead."
