West Wales Donates to Llangynwyd Rangers BGFC

15 April 2025

Llangynwyd Rangers BGFC has scored a valuable boost thanks to a £2,000 donation from Persimmon Homes West Wales as part of our Community Champions scheme.

The funding comes as Persimmon announces plans to deliver 133 zero-carbon ready homes for local people on land south-west of Bridgend Road, Pont Rhyd Y Cyff. As part of its commitment to investing in the local area, the donation recognises the vital role that grassroots clubs like Llangynwyd Rangers play in bringing communities together.

The cheque presentation took place at the club’s home ground with coaches and local representatives from Llangynwyd Middle Community Council joining Persimmon Homes West Wales to mark the occasion.

The funding will go towards essential facility improvements that aim to provide a safe and secure environment for the club’s growing membership, including teams from juniors to seniors. Club officials say the donation will help upgrade their facilities, ensuring that players can enjoy football in a setting that supports both their performance and development.

Persimmon’s planned Pont Rhyd Y Cyff development, located just a short distance from the club, could feature a mix of two to four-bedroom, no-gas homes powered by air-source heat pumps and solar panels.

In keeping with our community-first approach, 15% of homes will be transferred to a housing association partner, while the wider site will include a network of green infrastructure, on-site play equipment, and a focus on ecological enhancement.

Sharon Bouhali, Sales Director at Persimmon Homes West Wales, said:

“We are proud to support Llangynwyd Rangers BGFC as part of our Community Champions initiative. Clubs like this are at the heart of local life, and we hope our donation will contribute meaningfully to their continued growth and success.

“As we prepare to bring sustainable, zero-carbon ready homes to Pont Rhyd Y Cyff, we’re committed not just to building houses, but to enriching the communities they serve.”

Mark Jenkins from Llangynwyd Rangers BGFC added:

“This generous support from Persimmon will have a lasting impact on our club. From investing in better facilities to creating a more inclusive and welcoming space for all our teams, it's a massive step forward.

“Unfortunately, as some may know, we had individuals’ trespass on our pitch and cause damage. As a result, we now need to bring forward plans to invest in improved CCTV and install roller shutter doors, which will cost the club an additional £5,000. These were longer-term goals, but due to the incident, they’ve become immediate priorities.

“We also have conducted internal refurbishment works, including upgrades to fixtures and fittings – so every bit of support like this from businesses such as Persimmon truly makes a difference.”

The Community Champions scheme sees Persimmon West Wales donate £24,000 each year to good causes across the region. Other recent beneficiaries include local charities, sports clubs, and community groups who work to make a difference where they live and play.
