Tiger Bay Amateur Boxing Club (ABC) is the latest winner of Persimmon Homes East Wales’ Community Champions scheme.
The developer presented the £1,000 cheque to the club at its training gym in Butetown, last week with the funds going towards developing the club’ Youth Boxing & Mentorship Programme, purchasing training equipment, funding coaching sessions, and covering venue costs.
Tiger Bay ABC is a grassroots community organisation whose mission is to provide young people with a safe, inclusive space where they can engage in sport, mentorship, and personal development, as well as combat youth violence, promote mental well-being, and encourage healthy lifestyles.
In addition to boxing training, the club offers mentorship, homework support, and life skills workshops that empower youth to build their confidence, improve academic performance, and avoid negative influences.
Persimmon Homes donates £48,000 to good causes and much-loved organisations across Wales each year as part of its Community Champions scheme. Recent local recipients include Creigiau Primary School, St Edeyrns Litter Pickers, Thornhill FC U12s Girls, City Hospice Cardiff, and Clwb Rygbi Caerdydd.
The five-star housebuilder has a site in north-west Cardiff, The Parish, where two, three, and four-bed homes are available from £184,995. Customers and properties can also be eligible to benefit from Help-to-Buy Wales, where homes can be purchased with just a 5% deposit.
Commenting, Persimmon Homes East Wales sales director Victoria Williams, said:
“Tiger Bay ABC are a great, local, community-focussed organisation that do a lot of good in the area, so when we saw their application for funding, they were an obvious choice for us.
“Persimmon is very happy to support a club that only encourages the benefits that a sport can bring but also that wrap-around support that can do so much good for young people, especially those in disadvantaged circumstances.
“We have a significant presence in Cardiff – with one live site and another on which we have just sold our final plot – so we are very happy to use our Community Champions scheme to help our local groups and organisations.”
Wasem Said founder of Tiger Bay ABC added:
“We are thrilled that our application was judged a worthy one by Persimmon – this donation will help us continue to provide life-changing opportunities for the young people of Butetown and beyond, creating a lasting impact on their lives.
“The club is a great place for young people to grow and the staff love playing a part in the community, so it means a lot to see that work recognised and supported through this donation.”
